The BSA Alumni Association has a rich history dating back to 2008. Below are some of the major milestones that have transformed the association into the organization it is today.
- In 2008, in preparation for the centennial celebration of the Boy Scouts of America, an alumni program was initiated under the auspices of the national development committee.
- In 2011, the first National Scouting Alumnus of the Year was bestowed upon Jack Coughlin of the Westchester Putnam Council for his contributions to the Eagle Scout Directory. This project is credited with locating over one million lost Eagle Scouts.
- “Once a Scout… Always a Scout” was formally adopted as a tagline at the close of 2013. Over 7,000 alumni counted themselves members of SAF.
- The new symbol chosen by the Alumni Association is a campfire. It welcomes you to rekindle your relationship with Scouting. Twelve rocks remind us to live by the Scout Law. The circle symbolizes inclusiveness. This sticks of our duty to one another; and like Scouting, the flames are eternal, bringing warmth and light to the world.
